Wowwwweeee! It’s been a month. I can’t believe I’ve barely blogged in the last month, and I’m really sorry for that. We found out our home was being listed and now sold, and as you can imagine, that halted most of the projects we had wanted to do. Today I thought it would be so fun to do a kitchen refresh at my mom’s house.
We started taking everything out of her kitchen and placing it on her kitchen table. Then cleaning the whole kitchen so I can have a fresh palette to work with.
I started by re-styling her shelving with only items they use on a daily basis, as well as a few smaller pieces of decor.
Their home is right on the beach, so I love incorporating vintage and beachy pieces into her space.
A few rules of them for styling a space:
- Vintage or meaningful art
- Florals or greenery
- Vintage pieces
With those three in mind, you can’t really go wrong.
Greenery doesn’t have to be expensive! My parents live in the middle of nowhere with no stories accessible, so I had to get creative. I found a bush in their backyard and trimmed some greens off for their vase. I then utilized her rosemary from her garden as well.
Always remember that less is more. When living in a space, make sure you have items out that you use, but don’t over clutter your space. Even if a space is clean, it can feel messy if it’s cluttered.
The art above her stove was hand-painted by my Mom. I actually stole it from her bathroom. So she’ll have to paint another for her bathroom.
But if you ask me, florals or stems are the showstoppers in any space. In this case, they were free. I trudged to the depths of their backyard and cut them down!
I would love to hear what you think of my Mom’s kitchen refresh. For a full view of how it looked in the beginning, head to my Instagram and tape on “Kitchen Makeover”
