It’s Monday – my favorite day of the week! Last week I did a poll in my stories, to see if you would be interested in reading a blog on my fall capsule wardrobe. Well, over 1,700 of you said YES. No need to ask me again 😉
I started doing capsule wardrobe’s in late 2016 after Jo dropped the first Magnolia Magazine. Here’s my first blog on capsule wardrobes. There was an entire section on capsule wardrobes and how they fit into a minimal lifestyle, make getting dressed much easier and cut down on spending. Uhhhhhh, count me in! I was sold! I immediately ran to my closet and purged anything I didn’t love or wear.

If you’re wondering if you should send something packing to the thrift store, ask yourself this: Have I worn it in the last 6 weeks? If the answer is no, you need to put it in the give away pile.
For me, I do not include comfy cozies like sweatpants, T’s and workout clothes in my capsule wardrobe.

This fall I have paired my closet down to a select 29 items which consists of
What’s in My Capsule Wardrobe
- 4 Pairs of Pants ( Two Jeans / Two Pants )
- 2 Jackets
- 1 Kimono
- 5 Sweaters – it’s sweater weather
- 9 Shirts
- 1 Dress
- 2 Jumpsuits
- 2 Pairs of Shoes
- 1 Purse
- 2 Hats
I will be adding in a few additional pieces as the season goes on (as I do every year), but my capsule wardrobes do tend to stay on the smaller side. I love what I love and I wear it constantly.

I picked up this dress a few weeks ago and I’ve already worn it six times. When you really really love something, grab it, it will most likely be an item you wear over and over again.
For this outfit I wore it with an oversized sweater belted up, so you could see how versatile a dress can be, even in Fall.
I pulled off the belt and sweater and wore the dress as is. Depending on what climate you’re in, that might not be an option. Dresses also look really cute with oversized cardigans too or jean jackets!

This next outfit will be on repeat. I will switch between this kimono, my raincoat and my wool coat. But the bodysuit that is seen in this photo is the comfiest thing that will ever touch your skin AND it is longer so it doesn’t ride up your crotch.
Also, these “Mom Jeans” have been in my capsule wardrobe for 1.5 years now and I still love them as much as I did when I bought them.
I love throwing on a hat when I’m going out as chances are, my hair is greasy!

I have only a few pairs of bottoms and I rotate them with different combinations of shirts, cardigans or jackets.
So What’s the Scoop
Why do you need a capsule wardrobe? It gives you the ability to purchase better quality pieces that you love that might be a bit pricier, but actually, you save money in the long run.
I used to have clothing spilling out of my closet and dresser. I would spend an hour trying on outfits trying to figure out what to wear and often I would say “I have nothing to wear!” I would also spent a lot more on clothing, I felt like I was always shopping.
With a capsule wardrobe I have a small wardrobe of clothing that I actually love. All items can be paired together and when I’m tired of it, I can re-sell as the items have good re-sale value.

If you found this helpful, I would love if you hit he share button. I would love to hear, do you like doing capsule wardrobes?

I just absolutely LOVE your style and this whole idea of a capsule wardrobe! I’ve never heard of it before, and I’m so glad you shared your insights.
I would love to know where the sweater you are wearing above the dress is from! I checked out the link to a similar one, but am looking for sweaters exactly like the one pictured! Thanks in advance!

Thank you so much Nairee! Unfortunately I bought that sweater a few years ago and it’s no longer sold.
