I was walking through our home this morning with a cup of coffee ( with a bit of almond milk ) and I had an idea to write a blog on our modern bohemian rental and how it looked before we moved in and after.
I went to my Instagram and put a poll up in my stories and 99% of you immediately said you wanted a blog. So… here we are!
I want to first say that my home is always evolving. I’m continually changing rooms, working with different companies and featuring different products, so this isn’t a true “after”.. but here is how our modern bohemian rental has evolved over the last two years.
If you’ve been following my blog for a while now, you’ll know I’m a farmhouse lover at heart. Only thing with this style is it’s so hard to keep clean, especially with four littles running around. Slowly over time I’ve filled our home with more modern pieces as they look more sharp to the eye and help a space feel a bit more tidy.
I thought it would be fun to go through our rental room by room and feature the before and after.. so here we go!
Starting with the Living Room as it’s the heart of our home. I’m so happy with how it’s turned out. You can find all there sources to the living room in this blog.
This room has been so fun to make ours. The only reason we painted it white was because I love white but mostly because we had colour matched the grey in this room literally at so many paint stores and so many times and no one could get the same colour, so we finally just painted it all white. It has brightened up this room a ton as our home doesn’t have a ton of natural light. Also for the DIY on our fireplace, did you know that the wood planks are on plywood? So we can easily take the sheets of plywood down to have the original faux rock.
Moving on to the master bedroom. This was the only room in the house that the landlords didn’t have time to paint or redo because we moved in a few weeks early. It was dark navy with yellow tinted ceilings. But I told her it was no problem and we would paint it!
Since this 1300 Square Foot Rancher doesn’t have a ton of natural light, we wanted to maximize every bit we have. We decided to use white paint again in our bedroom and light colored linens on our bedding.
We haven’t done much in our master bathroom.. but here’s a quick before and after
Moving on to the “guest room” turned “twin room”
and with a little elbow grease we transformed Brinley and Rhetts room into a traditional / Hawaiian paradise.
Their room only fits two twin beds and a very small three drawer dresser, but it fits them perfectly and our Moto has always been “less is more“
The third and final room in the house is our oldest boys room. They have always shared a room and I don’t see that ever changing – even when we have more rooms in our home someday.
We recently did a little mini revamp in their room. If you guys have preteen boys, you know how messy they are, so don’t be fooled by the photos! 😉 This space is really small, so it’s hard to get photos of the full room.
Moving on to the entrance. We haven’t really done much in here. The green wall you see is painted on plywood, so when we leave, we can easily take the sheet down with the wall beneath it not damaged.
I don’t have a before photo of the dining room, but here is a recent picture from Christmas time. Without a doubt, this space is so so hard to photograph. It’s a super small room. Not even a 6×9 rug will fit in it.
We recently made over our laundry room.. this is one of my favorite rooms in the home. It’s so cheery and bright now.
and with a little elbow grease and some decals we turned this space into this…
We’re currently working on our den. It has no windows and is only 8×10.. but I’m so excited to show the completed project with you. We’ve already made some big changes and it’s going to be so glorious to have a space to work in our home that isn’t my bed or sofa.
Lastly, here is the transformation we did last summer on our deck. Some of the wood on the deck was rotting and Glen actually fell through in two different spots, so we finally decided to replace the rotting rails and steps and plank.
Here is the before
and the after
You can find all the sources to our deck in this blog. I cannot wait to enjoy it this spring and summer again!
Let me know what you think of our modern bohemian rental makeover in the comments!
